Collection ID 593
Director: Carl Reiner
Starring: Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters, Catlin Adams, Mabel King, Richard Ward
Genre: Comedy
Studio: Universal Studios   Release date: 1979   Rated: R
Language (Country): English, French (only on The Jerk) (USA)
Summary: Carl Reiner ("Where's Poppa?") brought comic Steve Martin to the screen in this mostly funny 1979 movie about a relentlessly stupid but innocent man, whom we get to know from childhood (where it never occurred to him that he was white as he was raised by a family of black sharecroppers) to romance (where he doesn't quite know what to do with Bernadette Peters). Martin is game as the moron, and this is the kind of film with funny moments people still talk about. The DVD release has production notes, bios, highlights, theatrical trailer, closed captioning, full-screen presentation, and optional Spanish subtitles. "--Tom Keogh"
My Rating:
My Review: Steve Martin at his best. Side splitting comedy. Directed by Carl Reiner, this classic is a gem from the 70's. Steve Martin as the adopted son of a black sharecropper's family. He sets off to find himself; ends up hunted by a deranged killer, becomes a ladies man, makes millions off a goofy invention, and then loses it all. In the end it's a movie about family ties. M. Emmet Walsh as the 'Phone Book Killer' was great. The writing was great, and this movie features several memorable lines (not necessarily in this order) and ridiculous bits: Navin R. Johnson: The new phone book's here. The new phone book's here. This is the kind of spontaneous publicity I need. My name in print. That really makes somebody. Things are going to start happening to me now. Sniper: Navin R. Johnson... Sounds like a typical asshole. Sniper: Die gas pumper! Navin R. Johnson: He hates these cans. Stay away from the cans! Sniper: Die, you random son of a bitch. The laughs go on and on and on. It made me laugh so much I puked (just kidding). If you don't have a copy you should. Go buy one today!

Collection ID 133
Director: Joseph Barbera, William Hanna
Starring: George O'Hanlon, Mel Blanc, Penny Singleton, Tiffany, Patric Zimmerman
Genre: Children's Video
Studio: Universal Studios   Release date: 1990   Rated: G
Language (Country): English (USA)
Summary: This movie is rad, I love it! All the voices match up to the actual characters excluding Judy (played by Tiffany). It's kinda retarded that Tiffany plays Judy and did all the music for the movie, but it actually works. There's all kinds of innovative new characters in this movie that just bring it to life. The Jetson's is my favorite cartoon (beside's Dexter's Lab) and I really dig this movie, I watch it at least once a month (and I'm 22). So, if you have kids I recommend it. Fun, colorful movie. Maybe I'll watch it again tonight. :)
My Rating:
My Review: The Hanna/Barbera tv show (from the 60s) comes to the big screen, and millions scream "Why!" Directed by Joseph Barnera and William Hanna, this animated movie features the cartoon characters; George Jetson, Jane his wife, Judy the lovestruck teenage daughter, Elroy the young boy, Rosie the robotic maid and Astro the family pet. The voice talent was mixed. There were numerous times when it was apparent that there were different people voicing the different characters. The story and direction were horrible. The story takes George and his family to an asteroid mine in order to manage a plant where his company is planning to make a million sprockets. There's far too much singing in the movie (poor music and vocals) and the 'Grungies' (Ewoks rip-offs) made my stomach turn. When the movie attempted to spin the plot to an environmental message I just about lost it. When George's plant experiences sabotage, it's up to George to figure out who's behind it and how to fix it. The short thirty minute cartoons (during the sixties) were better than this feature length movie. A poor movie all around. I give it a 1 out of 5.

Collection ID 464
Director: Dennie Gordon
Starring: David Spade, Brittany Daniel, Dennis Miller, Adam Beach, Christopher Walken
Genre: Comedy
Studio: Columbia Pictures Corporation   Release date: 2001   Rated: PG-13
Language (Country): English (USA)
Summary: David Spade stars as Joe Dirt, an idiot who works as an oil weller who is on the search for his parents who abandoned him when he was a baby at the grand canyon.
My Rating:
My Review: Written by David Spade and Fred Wolf. Directed by Dennie Gordon (Best known for television shows, this was her feature film debut). Starring David Spade, Brittany Daniel, Dennis Miller and others. This is an odd movie, it's narrated from the beginning to end - It's the story of Joe Dirt. Dennis Miller plays Zander Kelly, a morning show DJ at a local radio station, when he 'Discovers' the subject of his next bio-show. David Spade plays 'Joe Dirt' (Pronounced 'Deer-Tay'). Joe's tale is one of woe, survival and strength. Joe was separated from his parents during a childhood visit to the Grand Canyon. He's been searching for them ever since - This is the story of Joe's journey. Either you like those really Dumb movies or you don't. I liked this one. Joe Dirt is a character who deserves your pity. A story which will keep you watching, despite the poor acting and corny gags. A SNL comedy with heart. Christopher Walken even makes an appearance as a dancing janitor in the witness protection program. It makes me laugh. Joe's adversity has done nothing to deter his spirit, and by the end of the trailer-park bashing, Joe becomes the hero and everyone's favorite folk hero. 3 out of 5.
