My Rating:
My Review: Sleepy Hollow - 1999 (drama, horror, mystery, comedy) Starring a fantastic cast of Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson, Michael Gambon, Casper Van Dien, Jeffrey Jones, Christopher Lee, Richard Griffiths, Ian McDiarmid, Michael Gough, Marc Pickering, Lisa Marie, Steven Waddington, Christopher Walken and Claire Skinner. This movie was directed by Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks), produced by Francis Ford Coppola, and featured music by Danny Elfman. This movie is a gothic masterpiece. A fantastic piece of work. The sets, locations and costumes were amazing. The music was mesmerizing and Johnny Depp did an outstanding job acting the Ichabod Crane character. Christopher Walken was absolutely chilling as the Headless Horseman. The story is a forensic murder mystery that becomes a supernatural ghost story about betrayal, love and a headless horseman. Absolutely amazing depth and richness of characters, with an ending that is simply fantastic. Tim Burton succeeds in creating an entirely complete world of dread with this movie. I give this movie a 5 out of 5 and I will watch it again and again.

Director: Billy Bob Thornton
Starring: Billy Bob Thornton, Dwight Yoakam, J.T. Walsh, John Ritter, Lucas Black
Genre: Drama
Studio: Miramax Films   Release date: 1996   Rated: R
Language (Country): English, French (USA)
Summary: Karl Childers, a simple man hospitalized since his childhood murder of his mother and her lover, is released to start a new life in a small town.
My Rating:
My Review: An absolutely fantastic movie. Written, directed and starring Billy Bob Thornton as a morally simple moronic murderer who's got it more together than many 'normal' people. This movie was definitely the pinnacle of Thornton's career. I've yet to see him do anything this good, and it's a shame. The casting (Billy Bob Thornton, Dwight Yoakam, J. T. Walsh, John Ritter, Lucas Black, Natalie Canerday, James Hampton, Robert Duvall), music, costumes, sets, locations, dialog, acting; everything about this movie was outstanding. A landmark film which everyone should see. A higly synergistic film where all the pieces fit together just right. The story is uncomplicated and powerful. It's like an art film without trying to be. That's what movie making is all about.

Collection ID 335
Director: Phil Alden Robinson
Starring: Jo Marr, Gary Hershberger, Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, David Strathairn
Genre: Action
Studio: Universal Pictures   Release date: 1992   Rated: PG-13
Language (Country): English, French, Spanish (USA)
Summary: Complex but lighthearted thriller about computers and cryptography, government and espionage, secrets and deception and betrayal.
My Rating:
My Review: One of my favorites. A light hearted spy thriller with a great cast. Starring Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Dan Aykroyd, River Phoenix, Mary McDonnell, Donal Logue, James Craven, Ben Kingsley and James Earl Jones, this movie was a great spy thriller about computers, cryptography and the government (with a small amount of political commentary). A misfit group of 'security experts' make a living testing bank security until they're contacted by the 'NSA' to recover a 'Black-Box'. From then on it's a twisted tale of deception, danger and espionage where you don't know who to trust. The writing is fantastic, the technical details are great and the pacing is perfect. The acting is a bit lighthearted and there are no explosions or scenes of gushing blood. The director did a bang-up job, and this movie is a joy to watch. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Collection ID 711
Director: Henry King
Starring: Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward, Ava Gardner, Ernest Hemingway
Genre: Drama
Studio: Digiviews   Release date: 1952   Rated: NR
Language (Country): English, French, Spanish, Swahili (USA)
Summary: As writer Harry Street (Gregory Peck) lays gravely wounded from an African hunting accident he feverishly reflects on what he perceives as his failures at love and writing. Through his delirium he recalls his one true love Cynthia Green (Ava Gardner) who he lost by his obsession for roaming the world in search of stories for his novels. Though she is dead Cynthia continues to haunt Street's thoughts. In spite of one successful novel after another, Street feels he has compromised his talent to ensure the success of his books, making him a failure in his eyes. His neglected wife Helen (Susan Hayward) tends to his wounds, listens to his ranting, endures his talk of lost loves, and tries to restore in him the will to fight his illness until help arrives. Her devotion to him makes him finally realize that he is not a failure. With his realization of a chance for love and happiness with Helen, he regains his will to live.
My Rating:
My Review: Directed by Henry King, starring Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward, Ava Gardner and others. In this movie (based on short story by Ernest Hemingway), Gregory Peck plays a wounded man. An author, journalist, great white hunter; a man beset by the woes of modern life - escaped from the responsibilities of society by way of adventure in Africa. Unfortunately, he's wounded, infected, and fading fast. His wealthy wife (Susan Hayward) stands by his side while he recounts (through death-bed flashback) the mistakes he's made throughout his life. His failures, regrets and second thoughts. As he's finally reached the end of his life, he reaches out for what he has, but will it all be to no avail? A good story, but a very bad film transfer. No subtitles, and plenty of film artifacts, fading and a seriously ill soundtrack. The acting by Gregory Peck was excellent, but Hayward and Gardner didn't do so good.
