Summary: Evidence suggesting that a murdered woman was a prosecutor's mistress leads to him being tried for the crime.
My Rating:
My Review: A murder mystery court-room drama starring Harrison Ford. It's your typical human drama, the person investigating a murder had an affair with the murder victim. Suspicion turns to the investigator, who is of course 'Innocent'. The ending is a bit of a surprise, but the plot is unoriginal. The movie lacked passion, and I fell asleep at one point. To slow for my tastes, and far to predicatable.

Director: Shane Carruth
Starring: Shane Carruth, David Sullivan, Casey Gooden, Anand Upadhyaya, Carrie Crawford
Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy
Studio: New Line Home Video   Release date: 2003   Rated: PG-13
Language (Country): English (USA)
Summary: Everything you think you know about modern science is about to unravel in this critically acclaimed film about two young engineers and the consequences they face when they invent a machine that enables them to travel back in time.

Running Time:

My Rating:
My Review: Written, directed and starring Shane Carruth. This independent film showcased some great talent in Shane Carruth and a very versatile cast. This incredibly low budget movie ($7,000) manages to create an incredible sci-fi story without resorting to explosions, cheesy special effects or a stupid love story. Four friends are working out of a garage, tinkering towards an unspecified secretive goal. In a breakthrough, they manage to create something special. Something none of them expected. As two of the group struggle to keep the secret to themselves, things start to unravel. This time travel story was compelling, challenging and interesting. The plot was as twisted as the convoluted conundrums created by their quantum box. The music led a thrilling air of mystery, and this movie was a success in it's ability to thrill without revealing too much. I really liked the fact that it became so convoluted that I couldn't follow it. Yes, the fact that I couldn't keep up. A time travel movie that doesn't put off the problems of paradox. A time travel movie where the characters do things that real people would do.

Director: Rob Reiner
Starring: Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Wallace Shawn
Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy, Romance
Studio: Act III Communications   Release date: 1987   Rated: PG
Language (Country): English (USA)
Summary: An elderly man reads the book "The Princess Bride" to his sick and thus currently bedridden adolescent grandson, the reading of the book which has been passed down within the family for generations. The grandson is sure he won't like the story, with a romance at its core, he preferring something with lots of action and "no kissing". But the grandson is powerless to stop his grandfather, whose feelings he doesn't want to hurt. The story centers on Buttercup, a former farm girl who has been chosen as the princess bride to Prince Humperdinck of Florian. Buttercup does not love him, she who still laments the death of her one true love, Westley, five years ago. Westley was a hired hand on the farm, his stock answer of "as you wish" to any request she made of him which she came to understand was his way of saying that he loved her. But Westley went away to sea, only to be killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. On a horse ride to clear her mind of her upcoming predicament of marriage, Buttercup...
My Rating:
My Review: The Princess Bride (My Collection/Digital) I bought this 30th Anniversary release of the Princess Bride from Apple/AppleTV. It was only $4.99 and I love this movie, so I couldn't pass up the deal. This definitely secures my digital copy of this movie, replacing the digital backup I made from the VHS version that I own. William Goldman wrote the book and screenplay (also wrote screenplays for Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, The Stepford Wives (original), The Great Waldo Pepper, All the President's Men, Marathon Man, A Bridge Too Far, Heat, The Ghost in the Darkness) for this movie - He's an excellent writer, and I love many of the movies he's written. Rob Reiner (Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, Sleepless in Seattle) directed, and it had a great cast - Robin Wright Penn, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, Fred Savage, Peter Falk, Billy Crystal. It's a classic fairy tale brought to the big screen. A whimsical adventure, a fantastic bed time tale. Told in narrative, the story is a family friendly comedic romance. An enchanting tale of two young lovers. When Buttercup and her stable boy - Westley are separated at a young age, Buttercup is destroyed when she learns that her true love has been murdered by the Dread Pirate Roberts. What follows is an amazing adventure as Westley does his best to wrest his Buttercup from the conniving clutches of Prince Humperdink. Filled with Pirates, Fire Swamps, fencing, giants, giant Rodents Of Unusual Size, and rotten aristocrats, this movie is a joy to watch, a story book tale for kids of any age. Perfect production, direction and acting. I give it a 5 out of 5

Director: Mel Brooks
Starring: Estelle Winwood, Renée Taylor, David Patch, William Hickey, Barney Martin
Genre: Comedy
Studio: Crossbow Productions   Release date: 1967   Rated: PG
Language (Country): English, German (USA)
Summary: Down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock is forced to romance rich old ladies to finance his efforts. When timid accountant Leo Bloom reviews Max's accounting books, the two hit upon a way to make a fortune by producing a sure-fire flop. The play which is to be their gold mine? "Springtime for Hitler."
My Rating:
My Review: Written and directed by Mel Brooks. His first feature length direction won him an oscar (Best Screenplay/Writing) and launched him on his way to Hollywood stardom. While the screenplay was fresh and entertaining, it wasn't original (damn!). The story; Zero Mostel stars as Max Biyalistok - a down on his luck producer who hasn't had a hit in years. Max is surviving by feigning romantic interest in his elderly female fans (producers have female groupies?). While Max is bilking the wealthy geriatrics, he strikes up a unlikely partnership with an accountant. Leo Bloom is played by Gene Wilder (oscar nominated for best supporting actor). Leo concocts a brilliant plan, a surefire way to earn piles of money. Make a flop. When your movie flops, you don't have to pay back the investors. So simple it can't fail. Leo an Max raise a huge pile of cash, and produce the 'sure to flop' musical - "Springtime for Hitler". At this point, you can only guess (I'll give you one chance) what happens when the play opens on broadway.. Lot's of energy, and great chemistry mark this comedic movie. It's funny, light hearted and entertaining.
