Information Leaflet IZD-007

1 March 2003: Coalition aircraft dropped 360,000 leaflets (six different types of leaflets) over the southern Iraqi cities of An Nasiriyah, Rumaylah, and Al Basrah between 0815 and 0930. At the same time, Operation Northern Watch (ONW) aircraft, based at Incirlik AB, Turkey, dropped 240,000 leaflets in the vicinity of two Iraqi anti-aircraft-artillery (AAA) batteries, northeast of Mosul. This was the first use of leaflets in northern Iraq. Aircraft dropped a leaflet similar to the “Iraqi ADA Beware…” (IZD-006) leaflet, but this leaflet was in full color, showing bright red flames engulfing Iraqi Air Defense facilities. The code number of the leaflet was IZD-007.

Front of leaflet: (Depiction) Fighter aircraft firing missiles at radar site and anti-aircraft battery on the ground. (English translation top) Iraqi ADA Beware! (English translation bottom) Do not track or fire on coalition aircraft.

Back of leaflet: (English translation) Attention Iraqi Air Defense. Any hostile action by Iraqi air defenses toward coalition aircraft will be answered by immediate retaliation. Iraqi air defense positions which fire on coalition aircraft or activate air defense radar will be attacked and destroyed.
